HIBISCUS TEA (HERBAL TEA)

Monsoon has arrived in many parts of the world. The wet weather calls for some warm beverage to soothe your throat. Flower infused teas are good and refreshing .Hibiscus Tea (Herbal Tea) is slightly sour ,tart and refreshing. It is one of my most favorite tea. I was introduced to this wonderful tea by my Colleague and friend Liza. She used to treat me with this delicious drink in office. I got he hang of it. The tea is a natural diuretic and rich in Vitamin C. You can either use fresh flower petals or dried ones. I have used dried ones here.It has a vibrant magenta color which is visually so appealing.

Some Facts about Hibiscus Tea:

  • It is low in Calories and Caffeine free
  • Good Source of Calcium ,Iron ,Magnesium,Sodium, Zinc, potassium and Phosphorus.
  • Aids Digestion
  • Aids in Lowering Blood Pressure.
  • Rich in Anti Oxidants
  • Some people may have mild discomfort or side effects.
  • People with blood pressure should monitor their blood pressure when consuming this tea.

Ingredients for Hibiscus Tea (Herbal Tea):

  • Hibiscus Petals Fresh or Dried:I got these online. You can use fresh flower petals if you have access to it.
  • Coconut Sugar: I love coconut sugar as it has low GI.You can substitute honey instead.
  • Water: Boil the water with leaves . I prefer to have warm tea in this wet weather.
  • Cinnamon: Completely optional. I like the flavor.

Recipe for Hibiscus Tea (Herbal Tea):

Equipment Used:

  • Sauce Pan
  • Spoon
  • Glass
  • Tea Strainer

Ingredients :

  • 500 ML Water
  • 2 Tsp Coconut Sugar
  • 2 Tsp Dried Hibiscus Flowers
  • Generous Pinch of Cinnamon

Method:

  • Pour water in a saucepan.
  • Add dried Hibiscus Leaves and bring it to boil.
  • Turn off the heat and let it steep for about 10 minutes or more if you want it more intense.
  • Stir in the cinnamon powder and coconut sugar. Increase or decrease as per your sweet preference.
  • Pour into tea cups or glasses through a strainer.
  • Serve and Enjoy!!!!!!!

Notes:

  • You may use fresh or dried flower petals.
  • Increase the quantity of the petals if you want more intense flavor
  • You may substitute any other sweetener as per your choice.
  • For a strong tea add more dried flowers and let it steep longer.
