Today I am sharing a Kashaya / Herbal Concoction recipe that is a immunity booster. It is good to have during this pandemic as we have to boost our immunity. Kashaya or Kashayam is a herbal extract which helps to keep your body warm and healthy. There are many types of kashaya for cold, cough , sore throat. upset tummy ,immunity booster etc.

What are the benefits of having Kashaya / Herbal Concoction?

Kashaya is a concoction that is made with a mix of different spices which has many health benefits . We have a various spices in our kitchen that are used to cure many illness. I make kashaya powder and make a concoction everyday for my family. We have it once a day in the evening after all family members are back home. There are various types of kashaya and helps us in many ways to fight cold ,cough ,sore throat, set right our digestive system and build our immunity.

What are the benefits of the Ingredients used in this Kashaya?

  • Coriander Seeds: These tiny seeds are magical for all our intestinal issues including bloating, gastric, diarrhea, nausea etc. It also helps to reduce bad lower Cholesterol and increase good cholesterol.It is also know to be good for skin and hair. It is also known to prevent Menstrual irregularities.It helps to cool and removes excessive heat from the body.
  • Cumin Seeds: Cumin used regularly in our cooking evokes the digestive fire, promotes healthy absorption and helps eliminate natural toxins. It is useful to the eyes, beneficial to the heart and to strengthen the uterus. It is an appetite stimulant and aids in digestion. Enhances immunity and invokes good sleep.
  • Dried Amla : Amla is known to have anti- inflammatory properties.It is rich in Vitamin C. It is a great remedy for hyper acidity and stomach ulcers. It helps to have beautiful hair and skin. Due to its high fiber content it is good for Constipation.
  • Black Pepper: Rich on Anti -Oxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. A versatile spice that aids digestion and lowers cholesterol and also helps to control blood sugar.
  • Haldi / Turmeric: It is a powerful spice with anti-inflammatory properties and is rich in antioxidants.
  • Dry Ginger : Helps to reduce inflammation , indigestion, Menstrual Pain , Morning sickness ,Lowers Cholesterol and Blood sugar.

Recipe for Kashaya / Herbal Concoction:



  • 4 Tsp Coriander seeds / Dhania
  • 2 Tsp Cumin / Jeera
  • 1 Tsp Black Pepper
  • 2 Tsp Dry Ginger / Sonth
  • 1 Tsp Turmeric / Haldi
  • 6 Raisins
  • 2 Tsp Dry Amla
  • 4 Cups of Water


For Kashaya Powder:
  • Dry roast all the ingredients separately except raisins and water.
  • Allow it to Cool Completely.
  • Blend all the ingredients to a fine powder.
  • Allow it to cool and then store it in an air tight container. Stays good at room temperature.
For Making Kashaya: (1 Cup=160 ML)
  • Boil 4 Cups of water
  • Add 1 Tsp of Kashaya Powder and raisins. Let the mixture to 3/4th of the original quantity.
  • Mix well and drink this kashaya along with the residue if any. We do not add honey.
  • You may add honey if you wish to.

  4. What a healthy kashayam recipe di, loved the tasate of coriander seeds, dry ginger and dry amla in it. It is easy to prepare this kashaya if herbal powder is ready. Surely it gives good relief when suffering from cough and cold.

  5. What a wonderful kashaya recipe Preethi as you’ve added dried amla and raisins. Amla is recommended for acidity and its a good way to use the dried ones when we don’t get fresh amla.
