KALA CHANA ALOO CHAAT (STREET FOOD)

Today my boys are at home and were craving for some chatpata Chaat. It has been a long time since we made chaat at home. I had some boiled kala chana and potatoes so I just whipped this incredibly delicious Kalal Chana Aloo Chaat. It is made with easily available ingredients. I have added mango mint chutney instead of the regular green chutney. I promise you will enjoy it and crave for more.

What is Chaat?

Chaat is basically as savoury snack that originated in India and were sold at road side stalls across the Indian Sub Continent. Today it is available everywhere in the world. There are so many variations and healthy twists to the regular chaats.There are different types of Chaat from different parts of India. Check out some varieties here.

Ingredients for Kala Chana Aloo Chaat:

  • Boiled Kala Chana / Brown Chickpeas
  • Boiled Potatoes
  • Tomatoes
  • Onions
  • Green Chilli
  • Fresh Coriander
  • Chaat Masala
  • Kala Namak
  • Garam Masala
  • Mango Mint Chutney
  • Hot & Spicy Chilli Sauce
  • Sev

Recipe for Kala Chana Aloo Chaat:

Ingredients for Kala Chana Aloo Chaat:

  • 2 Cups Boiled Kala Chana / Brown Chickpeas
  • 3 Small Boiled Potatoes cut into cubes
  • 2 Medium Ripe Tomatoes finely chopped without the flesh
  • 1 Green Chilli
  • 2 Medium Onions
  • 1 Tbsp finely Chopped Fresh Coriander
  • 1/2 Tsp Chaat Masala
  • Kala Namak as per taste
  • 1/4 Tsp Garam Masala
  • 2 Tbsp Mango Mint Chutney
  • 1 Tbsp Hot & Spicy Chilli Sauce
  • Sev as needed for garnish

Method:

  • Take a wide bottom bowl.
  • Add boiled and cooled Kala chana , boiled potato cubes ,finely chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, green chilli.
  • Next add finely chopped fresh coriander , chaat masala ,kala namak ,garam masala, mango mint chutney and hot and spicy Chilli sauce.
  • Mix well .Garnish with Sev and serve.

Notes:

  • Soak Kala Chana for 8 hours or overnight.
  • Pressure cook with salt upto 5 Whistles
  • Allow it to cool completely before making chaat
  • Having boiled potatoes makes it easier .
  • I have given the link to the mango mint chutney recipe. do try to make it with this chutney instead of regular green chuntey.
  • In case you don’t have kala chana you can use any chickpea variety.
