SPECIAL THALI MEAL (VEGETARIAN)

Today I am sharing a special Thali meal . I have been thinking of posting a Full thali meal recipe for a long time. Finally managed to click and share the recipe with all my lovely readers. It is a very simple yet delicious meal. Special Thali Meal (Vegetarian) is curated as per my Family’s taste and liking. I am sure you will love it to. I have Used my Husband’s precious Silver Thali to serve.

What is a Thali meal?

Thali meal usually comprises a variety of dishes served on a plate ranging from rice , roti, poori, dal, veggies ,curries,pickle,papad , sweets etc.. There are many types of thali meals which vary from state to state and region and region. It is a balanced meal . I prepare Special Thali meals (Vegetarian) during festivals which usually comprises of traditional recipes. Today’s thali meal consists of simple yet delicious dishes.

My Special Thali Meal (Vegetarian) Consists of:

Recipe for Masala Roti:

Ingredients:

  • 2 Cups Whole wheat Flour
  • 1 Tsp Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
  • 1.5 Tsp Cumin / Jeera
  • 1/2 Tsp Chaat Masala
  • Handful of Kasuri Methi
  • 2 Tbsp Yogurt
  • 1 Tbsp Finely Chopped fresh Coriander.
  • Salt to Taste
  • Water for Kneading
  • Oil

Method:

  • Take a wide bottom bowl. Add all the above ingredients except oil and water. Mix well and you will get a crumbly texture.
  • Add water slowly and combine all the ingredients to form a soft dough.
  • Allow it to rest for about 20 mins.
  • Divide the dough into equal parts. Dust some flour and roll the small dough ball into desired round shape.
  • Heat a griddle pan. Transfer the rolled Roti on the hot griddle . Brush oil on both sides and cook until both the sides are nicely done.
  • Once done transfer the rotis to a hot case.
  • Masala roti’s are ready to serve.
  • You can also roll them as Lachha Parathas and serve.

Recipe for Aloo Bhindi Curry:

Ingredients:

  • 3 Medium Size Potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 15 Bhindi washed ,dried and cut into 1″ pieces
  • 1 Tsp Jeera / Cumin
  • 2 Onions Finely Chopped
  • 3 Red Tomatoes Pureed
  • 2 Tsp Poppy Seeds
  • 15 Cashews
  • 2 Tsp Pav Bhaji Masala
  • 2 Tsp Oil
  • 1/4 Tsp Haldi
  • 1/2 Tsp Mustard
  • Salt to Taste
  • 1/2 Tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/4 Tsp Amchoor
  • Finely chopped fresh coriander

Method:

  • Heat a wide bottom Pan. Add oil. Once the oil is hot add mustard and Cumin. Add chopped onions.
  • Once the onions are slightly browned add cubed potatoes and roast on medium flame untill the potatoes are half done.
  • Add the chopped Bhindi and amchoor powder.
  • Roast on medium flame untill nicely done. Ensure the potatoes are cooked and bhindi is not mushy.
  • Grind poppy seeds, cashews and tomatoes to a fine lump free paste.
  • Once the aloo and bhindi are nicely done add haldi, Pav bhaji masala ,chilli powder and salt. Let the masala cook for 2 minutes.
  • Next add the tomato mixture and mix well. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes on low flame.
  • Turn off the heat. Garnish with fresh Coriander and serve.

  1. Such a wonderful delicious looking thali Preethi. I want each and every item that’s on the thali. Love how you’ve prepared bhindi with potato curry. I must try that recipe as I usually make dry stir fried bhindi. Must have been a wonderful treat for your family to have all their favorites.
