OVEN ROASTED CAULIFLOWER STEAK

Today I am back with a easy and delicious vegetarian steak. Cauliflower is the star attraction of this incredible recipe. Oven Roasted Cauliflower steak is a vegetarian’s delight. Serve it to your family and friends and I promise they will be left craving for more. I have added some desi flavors to this steak. Do try it to believe it.

What is a Steak?

A steak is a meat generally sliced across the muscle fibers, mostly with a bone and is usually grilled. It is very popular here among the locals and is considered an exotic dish. These days there are many vegan and vegetarian options. You can make it using chickpeas , cauliflower, mushrooms, mock meats. This is my first attempt to make Oven roasted Cauliflower steak and it is a hit. I will experiment with different flavors now.

Ingredients:

  • Cauliflower—Star Ingredient of this Recipe
  • Extra virgin Olive Oil—-I love to use Olive Oil when I roast veggies
  • Leaves of the Cauliflower–Cauliflower was fresh and leaves were tender too.
  • Fresh Coriander–Finely chopped for garnish
  • Chaat Masala— Adds a nice taste and flavor to the dish
  • Salt–Main Ingredient
  • Pav Bhaji Masala—Adds a nice desi touch and flavor to the dish
  • Jeera / Cumin Powder—Roasted Cumin enhances the flavor
  • Paprika: Balances the taste and gives a nice colour
  • Coarse Pepper Powder: Adds some intense flavor and spice to the cauliflower steak
  • Coriander & Mint Chutney— A great accompaniment with Steak

We love cauliflower when cooked at home. We usually get clean and nicely packed fresh Cauliflower from the local farms.

Recipe for Oven Roasted Cauliflower Steak:

Ingredients:

  • 1 Small Fresh Cauliflower
  • 4 Tsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1/2 Tsp Jeera Powder
  • 1 Tsp Paprika Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Chaat Masala
  • 2 Tsp Finely chopped Coriander
  • Salt to Taste
  • 1/2 Tsp Pav Bhaji Masala
  • 1 Tsp Coarse Black Pepper Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Butter for the final glaze before serving (optional)
  • Fresh leaves of the Cauliflower(Optional)

Method:

  • Preheat the Oven at 200 Degree C .
  • Soak the whole cauliflower in hot water with salt for about 10 mins.
  • Remove the cauliflower from the salt water. Trim the very bottom of the core but keep the core intact. If not they florets will fall apart.
  • Slick into 3/4 ” Thick Slices and the sides will fall apart. You can roast them along with the steaks.
  • Arrange the steaks on a single layer on the baking sheet. Drizzle extra virgin olive oil on the steaks and the florets.
  • Sprinkle half of the spice quantity on one side ( paprika ,jeera powder, pav bhaji masala,pepper powder,salt)
  • Bake this side for 15 mins.
  • Flip the sides and drizzle some extra virgin olive oil. Sprinkle the balance spice powders and salt.
  • Bake it for 20 mins or untill browned and fork tender.
  • Garnish with finely chopped fresh coriander.
  • Serve with coriander and mint chutney or any chutney of your choice.
  • Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Love the simplicity of this oven roasted cauliflower steak and the spices you have used to flavor this dish. With pavbhaji masala, paprika and chaat masala going in I am sure this dish is lip smacking ! Can’t wait to try it out.

  2. An Indian take on the famous cauliflower steak that has become famous with dieters. Love how you’ve used pav bhaji masala and chaat masala. Had me drooling at the part where you mentioned to serve it with chutney.

  4. Yum! I make kappa regularly but did not think of making these steaks with Cauliflower. This is brilliant I must try making it for hubby the cauliflower fanatic.
