Horsegram peanut Soup is absolutely lip smacking . Perfect for the cool weather when you want to have something fuss free. A bit of planning and there you go….
Some Interesting Facts about Soups:
Soup is basically a liquid dish, typically savory and made by boiling meat, fish, or vegetables etc. in stock or water.
Soups can be divided into three basic categories namely Thick Soups & Thin Soup which is further divided in to Passed Soup, Unpassed Soup and Cold Soup & International Soup which are basically special and famous or national soup from various countries. Thin soups are all based on a clear, unthickened broth or stock.
There are huge varieties of Soups these days that serves as a complete meal in itself.

This month our hostess is Shobha Keswani who is an amazing blogger with specialized Sindhi recipes and International recipes on her blog. She suggested the theme Monsoon Treats. Check out her delicious Soup that she shared . My partner this month is Seema who is a fabulous blogger. She blogs at Mildly Indian and has many versatile recipes to her credit. I loved her recipes with Forbidden Rice. She gave me two ingredients Horsegram and Coriander Leaves and I gave her Rice flour and Asafoetida. Check out her recipe for crispy Pakodas that she whipped up. My humble contribution is this simple and nutritious Horsegram Peanut Soup.
Ingredients for Horsegram Peanut Soup:
HorseGram: It is considered one of the super foods.Horse gram is rich in nutrients, including protein and fiber.
Peanut : Peanuts are rich in protein, fat, and fiber. If you are allergic to nuts then you can skip this.
Toor Dal:Toor dal is an incredible source of proteins for vegetarians, carbs and dietary fibre needed for growth and development.
Salt: I have used Himalayan Pink Salt . You can use any regular salt.
Fresh Coriander: Rich in immune-boosting antioxidants and adds a nice flavor to the soup.
Jeera:Contains antioxidants and anti Inflammatory properties. It is good for the tummy.
Oil: I have used Sunflower oil.You can use any odorless oil.
Chilli Flakes: Give some Spice kick to the soup.
Asafoetida:Asafoetida is rich in antioxidants and has multiple health benefits.
Onion:Onions contain antioxidants and compounds that fight inflammation.
Ginger Garlic Paste: Enhances the taste of the soup.
Black PepperCorns : Has many health benefits apart from having Anti oxidant and Anti Inflammatory properties.
Green PepperCorns :Green peppercorns are rich in vitamin C and K, which are powerful antioxidants
Water: Used to adjust the consistency of the Soup.
Recipe for Horsegram Peanut Soup:

Heavy bottom Pan
Spatula
Blender
Chopping Board

Ingredients for Horsegram Peanut Soup:
1/2 Cup HorseGram
1/4 Cup Peanut
2 Tsp Toor Dal
Salt to taste
1 Tbsp Fresh Coriander finely chopped
3/4 Tsp Oil
1 Tsp Jeera
1/2 Tsp Chilli Flakes
1/4 Tsp Asafoetida
1 Onion finely chopped
1/2 Tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
1/2 Tsp Black PepperCorns
8 Green PepperCorns
4 Cups of Water
Method:
Wash and soak horsegram , peanuts and toor dal for about an hour.
Pressure cook the soaked ingredients with 4 Cups of water up to 4 whistles. Allow it to cool.
Drain the boiled ingredients and keep the water aside.
Transfer the boiled ingredients into a blender . Add black pepper corns , green pepper corns , jeera and blend to a smooth paste.
Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan.
Add ginger garlic paste , asafoetida and chopped onions and saute them untill they are nice and soft.
Added the blended mix , water that you drained and kept aside, salt , chilli flakes and fresh coriander .
Add water if needed to adjust the consistency.
Let it boil for a 3-4 minutes.
Turn off the heat.
Serve hot or warm as desired.
Garnish with fresh coriander ,extra black pepper if you wish .
This is an interesting combination of ingredients for a soup. Looks quite nice and filling. I would love to try it out soon as it is a new recipe with the addition of peanuts.
