August is the month of festivals. Janmashtami 2021 falls on August 30. Janmashtami is also known as Krishna Jayanthi or Gokulashtami . Birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated with great fervor in many parts of India.Lot of goodies , both savory and sweet are made and offered to Lord Krishna. For working women like me who have time constraint to prepare a elaborate spread, Sihi Avalakki / Sweet Poha is a perfect dish . It can be prepared in less than 15 minutes. A perfect dish to offer to the Lord. It is very simple and easy .
Ingredients for Sihi Avalakki / Sweet Poha:
White Avalakki / Poha / Flattened Rice: I have used the thin variety. Gives a perfect texture.
Jaggery Powder : You can use normal jaggery instead. Melt it and strain it to remove the dirt if any.
Grated desiccated Coconut: I have used grated desiccated coconut. you can add fresh coconuts chunks instead.
Cardamom Powder: Adds a nice flavor to the sweet dish.
Ghee: I have used ghee for roasting cashews. Adds a nice aroma to the dish.
Cashews: You can add any dry fruit as per your choice. I have used only cashews.

my ajji used to make this snack often when we came back from school, not just for janmashtami. cashews of course is a luxury here, but i loved the idea of sauteeing them in ghee to add the crunch
Such a delightful and easy recipe Preethi. Sihi Avalakki is a new dish for me. With jaggery it must have an earthy and flavourful taste. When my MIL was staying with me we would make so many different dishes for Janmashami. Now I barely manage one or two dishes for offering.
My favourite snack that Amma made! Sihi avalakki is absolutely the crowd favourite. You have me craving for some think will make it later in the day! 😀
This sihi avalakki looks tasty. It was often made in our home too but the method was slightly different. We use fresh coconut and mix thin avalakki without rinsing it in water. Nice share for festive season.
