LENTILS & SPRING ONION PANCAKE

Today is a very special day for my family as my older son turns another year older. We have planned to spend some quality time with him and make memories. I decided to start the day with his favorite breakfast. Lentils & spring onion pancake can be whipped in a jiffy and is filling too. Mixed lentil paste combined with spices and spring onion makes a delicious and flavorful pancake batter. Try it to believe it.

Why is breakfast essential?

Breakfast is an essential meal of the day as you eat after a gap of 6-8 hours. So it is a must to have a nutritious breakfast to balance the sugar levels in the body. Traditional breakfast recipes are the wholesome.Breakfast kick-starts our metabolism, helping us to burn calories throughout the day. Many studies have linked eating breakfast to good health, including better memory and concentration.

Recipe for Lentils & Spring Onion Pancake:

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Moong dal / Split Yellow Lentils
  • 1/2 Cup Urad Dal / Dehusked Black Gram
  • 1 Onion Finely Chopped
  • 2 Green Chilles finely Chopped
  • 1 Tsp finely grated ginger
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 Tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
  • 1 Tsp Jeera / Cumin
  • 1/2 Cup finely chopped Spring onions
  • A generous pinch of Hing
  • Oil

Method:

  • Soak Urad dal and Moong dal for 4 hours.
  • Grind both the lentils to a smooth batter. Add only a tbsp of water.
  • Allow it to rest for 30 mins.
  • Add finely chopped onions, chillies, spring onions , grated ginger jeera, salt ,red chilli powder, hing. Mix well.
  • Take a ladle full of batter and spread it on the hot griddle.Drizzle some oil on the sides.
  • Once the bottom of the pancake is cooked flip the side and cook on the other side.
  • Once both the sides are perfectly cooked serve it with any sauce , green chutney or red chutney and some podi.
  • I served it with spicy chilli sauce and podi and it tasted heavenly.

  2. Such a wonderful idea to use a mixture of lentils or dals to make a healthy breakfast. With spring onion added, the lentils & Spring Onion Pancakes must be so tasty. Would love to try this recipe as I usually make them with besan only.
