GUAVA AND BELL PEPPER CURRY

Today I am sharing a very unusual recipe that is loved at my place.There are times when we run out of veggies . Today is one of those days. I just had one guava and one bell pepper sitting in my fridge. I decided to make this insanely delicious guava and bell pepper curry without onion and garlic. Perfect to make even during festivities. I am sure your family will love it.

Bell peppers are rich in many vitamins and antioxidants, especially vitamin C and various carotenoids. It is known to be good for eye health and Anemia Prevention too.

Recipe for Guava and Bell Pepper Curry:

Ingredients:

  • 1 Large Seedless Guava that is semi ripe cut into cubes
  • 10 Dry Red Chillies
  • 1 Tsp Channa Dal
  • Few Curry Leaves
  • 1/4 Tsp Mustard
  • 1 Tsp Urad Dal (Whole)
  • 3/4 Tsp Jeera / Cumin
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper cut into medium size pieces
  • Salt to Taste
  • 1/2 Tsp Kashmiri Chilli Powder
  • 3/4 Cup Freshly grated Coconut
  • 1/4 Tsp Hing / Asafoetida
  • 1/4 Tsp Turmeric / Haldi
  • 2 Tsp Oil

Method:

  • Heat a heavy bottom pan.
  • Dry roast Channa dal and urad dal. Once they turn colour add jeera and dry red chilli.
  • Once it splutters add a few curry leaves and grated coconut .Mix and turn off the heat. Allow the mixture to cool completely. Blend the ingredients to make a fine paste.
  • Heat the same pan. Add oil. Once the oil is hot add mustard. Once it splutters add curry leaves ,haldi and asafoetida.
  • Add the guavas and bell pepper. Mix well. Let it cook on medium flame for about 10 mins. Ensure the guavas do not become mushy.
  • Once guava and bell pepper are done add the ground coconut paste.
  • Add salt to taste. Allow it to simmer for 6-8 mins on medium flame.
  • Garnish with roasted Sesame seeds and serve hot with Rice , Roti or Phulkas.
