This is one of the interesting ways to incorporate sprouts into your diet . It is filling too.Black Gram Sprouts and Bajra tikki is incredibly loaded with the goodness of black gram sprouts and Bajra flour. This is perfect for people who are gluten resistant .

  • Bajra is a nutrient-dense source of protein, carbs, vitamins, minerals, and beneficial plant chemicals.

Main Ingredients for Black Gram Sprouts and Bajra Tikki:

  1. 1.Black Gram Sprouts : Soak black gram overnight . Next day strain the water and place the colander covered with a clean wet cloth in a warm place. You will see the black gram sprouting slowly.
  2. 2. Bajra Flour : This is a gluten free flour and perfect for the winters.
  3. 3. Green Chili: Adds some nice spice kick to the tikki. I have used mildly spicy green chilli here.
  4. 4. Fresh Ginger : Aids digestion and gives a nice aroma to the tikkis.
  5. 5. Fresh Coriander : Adding fresh coriander enhances the taste and adds a nice aroma too.
  6. 6.Red Onions: I love to add finely chopped red onions instead of the white ones.
  7. 7. Cumin / Jeera : Add whole cumin or Jeera
  8. 8. Black Pepper: Add freshly ground coarse black pepper. I love to taste pepper in every bite.
  9. 9. Oil : Use any neutral oil for shallow frying.

BLACK GRAM SPROUTS AND BAJRA TIKKI

Equipment

  • 1 Blender
  • 1 Mixing Bowl
  • 1 Heavy Bottom Pan
  • 1 Chopping Board
  • 1 Knife

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Cup Black Gram Sprouts
  • 2 Cups Bajra Flour
  • 3 Nos Green chilies finely chopped
  • 2 Nos Red Onions finely chopped
  • 1 Tsp Jeera / Cumin
  • 2 Tbsps Finely Chopped fresh Coriander
  • 1 Tbsp Coarse black pepper (Freshly ground)
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 Tsp Finely Chopped fresh ginger
  • 5 Tbsp Oil for shallow frying

Instructions
 

  • For Balck Gram Sprouts
  • Soak black gram overnight. Then drain the water and store in a warm place for it to sprout. You can place it in a colander and cover it with a wet cloth. Black gram will sprout very nicely in two to three days .

For Balck Gram Sprouts and Bajra Tikki

  • Blend the sprouts and ginger to a fine paste.
  • Transfer the blended ingredients in a mixing bowl. Add bajra flour , chopped onions , chopped fresh coriander, green chili, coarse black pepper , salt, Sprouts and ginger paste and jeera.
  • Mix all the ingredients together to make a soft dough . Add water only if needed.
  • I have not added water as the ground sprouts and ginger mix had enough moisture .
  • Take small portion of the dough and give it a round shape. Repeat the process for balance dough.
  • Heat oil in a pan . Shallow fry each tikki and until both the sides are golden brown.
  • Serve with Green chutney or Sauce.
  • Enjoy with family……..

Notes

  1. I have used sprouted black gram . You can use green gram sprouts too.
  2. Increase or decrease number of green chili as per your spice preference.
  3. These tikkis are  not spicy but served with spicy green chutney.
  4. Try with Bajra flour only as it tastes awesome.
  5. Best served hot and Crisp.
  6. Simple ingredients are used to make these tikkis.

    Wow, Preethi I did not think we could sprout black gram. Now this recipe is perfect for the little bajra flour that I have and need to use up before Summer hits us. Love the recipe and I am soaking black gram for the sprouts tonight.
