Today I am sharing one of the yummiest and quickest version of Raita.This is a kathiyavadi verison that is super simple and easy to whip up.Do try this when you run out of vegetables or bored of your regular curries and subzi. You just need 10 mins to whip up this insanely delicious Dahi Tikhari / Spiced tempered Yogurt.. This popular dish is from the Kathiyavad region of Gujarat.This is usually served with Roti , Thepla , Dhebra or even rice.The flavors are simple but anything with garlic and spices enhances the taste to the next level.
Dahi Tikhari / Spiced Tempered Yogurt
Dahi Tikhari / Vagharelu dahi means tempered yogurt with some minimal spices.It is very popular from the Kathiyavadi region of gujarat. Especially during summers when we want to spent less time in the kitchen , this dish comes super handy. It can be whipped up with easily available ingredients in our kitchen.

DAHI TIKHARI / SPICED TEMPERED YOGURT
Equipment
- 1 Pan
- 1 Mixing Bowl
- 1 Chopping Board and Knife
- 1 Whisk
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Thick Yogurt
- 1 Tbsp Oil
- 1/4 Tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1/2 Tsp Cumin Seeds
- 6 Nos Garlic cloves thinly sliced
- 3 Nos Dry Red Chili
- 1/4 Tsp Turmeric
- 1/4 Tsp Cumin Powder
- 1/4 Tsp Coriander Powder
- 1/4 Tsp Asafoetida / Hing
- 1 Tsp Kashmiri Red Chili Powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 Tbsp Finely chopped fresh Coriander
Instructions
- Whisk the thick yogurt lump free in a bowl. Add salt ,mix well and keep it aside.
- Heat oil in a pan . Add mustard seeds and Cumin seeds. Once they splutter add Hing, garlic and dry red chili.
- Saute until the garlic turns crispy brown . Turn off the heat.
- Add turmeric powder , red chili powder , cumin powder and coriander powder. Mix well.
- Once the tempering cools down add half of the tempering to the whisked yogurt and mix well.
- Garnish the remaining tempering on the top and add the finely chopped fresh coriander.
- Serve with any flat bread or rice and enjoy .
Notes
- Use thick yogurt for best results. You can use home made or Greek yogurt.
- Ensure the yogurt is not sour.
- Replace garlic with ginger if you do not eat garlic.
- You can uses onions too.
- Skip Asafoetida / Hing to make it Gluten free.
- Ensure not to burn the garlic and spices as it with ruin the taste and flavors.
