SORAK CURRY -PLAIN COCONUT CURRY

Sorak Curry is a simple coconut based curry with no vegetables or meat. It is a plain coconut based curry that goes well with steamed rice and stir fried vegetables on the side.

Equipment

  • 1 Wide Bottom Pan
  • 1 Blender
  • 1 Spatula

Ingredients
  

For the Masala

  • 4 Nos Red Chili (Byadgi Variety)
  • 1/2 Tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 Tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 10 Nos Black Pepper Corns
  • 1 Cup Freshly grated coocnut
  • Marble Size Tamrind
  • 2 Not Garlic with skin(Use the fat ones )
  • 1 No Small Onion Roughly chopped
  • 1/4 Cup Water

For the Curry

  • Salt to taste
  • 1 No Fresh Green Chili (Optional)
  • 1/2 No Onion thinly sliced
  • 1 Tsp Coconut Oil

Instructions
 

  • In a blender grind dry ed chili, Mustard seeds ,Cumin and Balck pepper corns to s fine powder.
  • Next add grated coconut, tamrind , rougly chopped onions , garlic with skin, water and grind to a smooth paste.
  • Heat Coconut oil in a pan . Roast the thinly sliced onions until noce golden brown.
  • Remove and transfer it to a plate.
  • In the same pan add the ground coconut paste. Add some water to adjust the consistency. Let the curry simmer on medium flame for about 4-5 minutes until the raw smell is gone.
  • Turn of the heat. Garnish with golden brown Onions.
  • Serve hot with Rice and Stir fried vegetables on the sides. Absolute bliss!!!

Notes

  1. You can make it without the coconut as well.
  2. Some add Turmeric to it .I have not added.
  3. Some add Coriander seeds too. I have not added it here.
  4. You can increase the number of dry red chili if you like it spicy.
  5. In case you have run out of dry red chili add red chili powder as per your spice tolerance.
