ANGAYA PODI (TRADITIONAL DIGESTIVE POWDER)

Angaya Podi / Powder is loaded with medicinal properties and given to New Moms post delivery to ease digestion . This recipe is passed on from generation to generation.

Equipment

  • 1 Heavy Bottom Pan
  • 1 Blender
  • 1 Spatula

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Cup Dry Neem Flowers
  • 1/4 Cup Black Nightshade Berry
  • 1/4 Cup Dried Turkey Berry
  • 2 Tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 2 Tbsp Black Pepper Corns
  • 25 Grams Dry Ginger Powder
  • 1 Tsp Toor Dal
  • 4 Sprigs Curry leaves
  • 2 Tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 Tsp Asafoetida
  • 1 No Dry Red Chili

Instructions
 

  • Heat a heavy bottom pan and dry roast dry neem flowers until golden brown. Keep it aside.
  • In the same pan, dry roast dried turkey berries until golden brown. Keep it aside.
  • Now add the dried turkey berries and dry roast until dark brown. Keep it aside.
  • In the same hot pan dry roast rest of the ingredients until golden brown and turn off the heat.
  • Allow it to cool completely . Blend it to a fine powder and store in an air tight container.
  • Server with hot rice and ghee or gingelly oil.
  • Enjoy !!!

Notes

  1. Using dry red chili is optional and you can skip it if you do not want to add.
  2. Some add carrom seeds as well.
  3. Always store it in an airtight container and use only dry spoon.
  4. You can use it in your regular diet .
  5. For new moms make a fine powder.
  6. I have made it coarse as I like to include in my regular diet.
