SPICY ALOO CHAAT (STREET FOOD)

This week I am sharing a delicious street food called Spicy Aloo Chaat. A super quick and insanely delicious chaat . I love chaats and is so irresistible. With the current situation so many items might not be available. This yummy spicy chaat is to satisfy my chaat craving.

What is Chaat?

Chaat Originated in India and has become very Popular world wide. The original chaat is a mixture of potato pieces, crisp fried bread dahi vada and tangy-salty spices, with green chilli, tamrind sauce, fresh coriander leaves ,coriander and mint chutney (Green Chutney)and yogurt for garnish, but other popular items includes aloo tikkis or samosa (garnished with onion, coriander, hot spices and a dash of curd), Pani puri ,bhel puri, dahi puri, , dahi vada, papri chaat, Masala Puri , and sev puri.

Recipe for Spicy Aloo Chaat :

Ingredients:

  • 4 Boiled & Cubed Potatoes (medium size)
  • 1 Big Onion Finely Chopped
  • Green Chutney
  • 1/2 Tsp Cumin Powder
  • Hot & Spicy Chilli Sauce
  • 1 Green Chilli Finely Chopped
  • 1/2 Tsp Coriander seeds (Roasted & Coarsely Crushed)
  • 1 Tbsp Finely Chopped fresh Coriander
  • 1/2 Tsp Chaat Masala
  • 1/4 Tsp Kasmiri Chilli Powder(Adjust as per your taste)
  • Kalanamak / Black salt to taste
  • Sev for Garnish
  • Juice of 1/2 Lemon
  • 1 Tbsp Oil

For Green Chutney :

  • Handful of Fresh Coriander
  • 1 Green Chilli
  • 1/2 Tsp Roasted Cumin Powder
  • 1 Tsp Thick Yogurt
  • Salt to Taste

Method:

  • Heat oil in a wide bottom pan. Shallow fry the boiled potato cubes untill they turn crisp and golden. You may deep fry if you want.
  • For Green Chutney blend all the ingredients mentioned under Green Chutney to get a fine paste. Use as needed.
  • Transfer the shallow fried Potatoes to a bowl.
  • Add cumin powder, coarsely crushed coriander, kashmiri red chilli powder,green chilli, kala namak and lemon juice. Toss them well.
  • Transfer the above to a serving bowl. Garnish with green chutney, hot & spicy Chilli sauce.
  • Sprinkle chaat masala and onion . Garnish with Sev and chopped fresh coriander.
  • Serve and Enjoy.

  1. Aloo chaat looks so spicy and mouthwatering. Crispy fried potatoes definitely enhance the taste. I always make aloo chaat without frying but now I will try your version.

    I can imagine the gorgeous flavours of this chaat. With the shallow-fried potatoes, chilli sauce, cumin powder, sev and kala namak, it’s bound to be delicious!

  6. Oh my! Such a flavorful chaat with the humble aloo. I’ve not tried aloo chaat on its own, usually mix chickpeas to it. But definitely a wonderful recipe and can imagine serving it in small glasses as a party starter.

  7. I absolutely love aloo chaat. In fact my first into to chaat was aloo chaat n boy does this have mu mouth watering. Even after lunch, snacking on chocolate I am hungry.
