What is Chuntey?

Chutney belongs to the family of Condiments or sauces from the Indian Sub Continent. It is known by various names and varies from region to region.Western-style chutneys are usually fruit, vinegar, and sugar cooked down to a reduction, with added flavourings. Indian Chutney is slightly different. My family is a great fan of chutney and we use pulses, veggies ,fruits to make chutney.

Ingredients for Mango Mint Chutney / Dip:

  • Raw Mango: It is always good to eat seasonal fruits and vegetables .It is high in vitamin C, calcium, magnesium which is useful for releasing toxins from the body. Raw mangoes are also known to be high in niacin, which helps boost cardiovascular health.
  • Fresh Mint: Mint leaves are rich in nutrients and good cure for some stomach ailments. It is so refreshing .
  • Fresh Coriander:It is known to be rich in immune boosting anti oxidants. Adds a nice flavor to the chutney.
  • Cumin Seeds: One of my most favourite spice. It is is rich in anti oxidants and has many health benefits. Imparts a nice flavor and taste to the chutney.
  • Red Peppercorns:Red Peppercorns come from the same vine as all other Peppercorns. They are just Peppercorns at a different stage. They are Green Peppercorns which have been allowed to fully ripen to being red, but which haven’t been fermented to turn them black
  • Dried Green Peppercorns: These don’t taste so strong and are mildly spicy. This is completely optional.
  • Salt : A main ingredient to balance the flavors and taste.
  • Green Chilli: Adds some spice kick to the chutney and balances the sourness from the green mango.

  3. Love making mango mint chutney as it goes so well with chaats. Love to have it as a sandwich spread too. I don’t add pepper corns, must try that next time I make my batch of mango mint chutney.

  4. Mint chutney we have all had, but this such an interesting variation to it. Love the addition of raw mango, and the red and green peppercorns. I can imagine the refreshing taste of this dip and the bold flavours!
