BREAD MINT FRITTERS / VADA

Today I am back with a quick and easy recipe that can be made in just 10 minutes with all the minimal ingredients available at home. Kids and adults will love them. You can serve as starters to your guests too.Bread Mint Fritters / Vada is lip smacking snack that will leave you craving for more. Serve it with tea when it is pouring outside and enjoy the rains. The weather in this part of the world is wet and very unpredictable.Working from home i enjoy these showers.
BREAD MINT FRITTERS  /VADA

Ingredients for Bread Mint Fritters / Vada:

  • Bread: You can use any variety of bread. I have used white bread here.
  • Mint Leaves : Mint leaves adds a refreshing flavor to the dish. It is rich in nutrients.
  • Fresh Coriander : Fresh Coriander enhances the taste of the fritters. It is rich in Immune boosting Anti Oxidants.
  • Saunf/ Fennel:It soothes the intestines and Stomach. Combined with fresh mint leaves and coriander is absolutely incredible.
  • Roasted Rava: I have used roasted rava here. It adds some crunch to the fritters and helps to bind.
  • Salt : I have used himalayan pink salt. You can use any variety.
  • Green Chillies: Adds some spice to the fritters. You can increase or decrease the quantity as per your spice tolerance.
  • Jeera / Cumin: Add some jeera to the fritters and the combination of spices makes it even more delicious.
  • Oil:I have used sunflower oil for shallow frying. You may use any odourless oil that is suitable for frying.

Equipment Used:

  • Mixie / Blender
  • Wide Bottom Pan
  • Spatula
  • Mixing Bowl

Ingredients for Bread Mint Fritters / Vada:

Makes 16 Vadas
  • 10 Slices of bread
  • 3/4 Cup Loosely Packed Fresh Mint Leaves / Pudina
  • 1 Cup Loosely Packed Fresh Coriander
  • 2 Tsp Fennel seeds / Saunf
  • 1 Tsp Cumin / Jeera
  • Salt to taste
  • 6 Green Chillies
  • 1 Tbsp Roasted Semolina / Rava
  • 3 Tbsp Oil for Shallow frying

Method:

  • Blend all the ingredients except oil and Rava to a fine paste. Do not add water.
  • Transfer the smoothly blended mix to a wide bottom bowl.
  • Add roasted rava and mix well.
  • Take a small quantity of the dough and give it a round shape .
  • Heat oil in a wide bottom pan. Shallow fry the vadas / fritters .
  • Do not overcrowd while frying.
  • Once the side is cooked turn and let the other side get fried too.
  • Transfer on to a paper towel.
  • Repeat the process for the balance dough.
  • Serve with Ketchup or chilli sauce and enjoy……………………

Notes:

  • Do not add water while grinding .
  • Add Chillies as per your spice tolerance. The quantity I have used is perfect for my family.
  • Any any variety of bread.
  • You make them in advance and freeze them.Shallow fry as and when needed.
  • Make sure to add saunf / fennel ,pudina and fresh coriander . Do not Skip these.
  • These fritters are not at all oily and oil is not used up.
